A Portable Bookshelf 4 – Union of the Two 3-ft Shelves

Shown below are pictures of how the two 3-ft Bookshelves were united to make a 6-ft Unit. This was accomplished simply using two bolts and nuts.  Once together there was a blank space between the shelving units that was filled for aesthetics using small blocks of leftover 1′ panel.  Those small, front blocks were locked in place with nails as pins and small holes in the shelf ends.  Again this was done for child safety.  It didn’t take a lot of extra work and looked much prettier.

I considered adding fill-in pieces between the upper 2×4 and 2×2 for looks, but between the warpage and additional effort required to figure out how to attach it – I just skipped that.  There are lots of ways the unit can be safely prettied up – but that wasn’t part of my goal here – it was pure functionality!
